Origin and background<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Sweet orange essential oil is made from the peel of an orange by cold extraction. Sweet orange essential oil is often referred to simply as orange oil.<\/p>\n

Orange tree (Citrus sinensis<\/i>) is a cultivated fruit tree belonging to the citrus family. Orange trees don't occur in nature. This crop is thought to have originated in southern China, northeastern India and southeastern Asia (the Indochina Peninsula). The orange tree was brought to the Mediterranean by Italian merchants in the 15th century or by Portuguese sailors around the end of the 15th century or the beginning of the 16th century. Before the spread of the orange in Europe, citrus fruits were used for medicinal purposes, but the orange quickly became popular among the richer population and this delicious fruit was grown in special conservatories, the so-called orangerie<\/em>’des<\/sup>. The first major plantations were established in Spain in 1792 and in Italy in 1870. In Morocco, oranges were not grown commercially until 1922. Today, orange groves are widespread on all continents.<\/p>\n
