Ravensara<\/h1>\n

Origin and background<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Ravensara (Ravensara aromatica<\/em>) belongs to a family of laurels Lauraceae<\/em> and originates in Madagascar<\/p>\n

The essential oil made from this plant is used in the perfume industry, but it is also very common in natural and folk medicine because of its antiseptic and antibacterial, antiviral, and expectorant properties.<\/p>\n

References to the healing properties of ravensara can be found in ancient Greek, ancient Roman, and medieval texts.<\/p>\n

Aromatic properties<\/h5>\n

Ravensara essential oil contains estragole (about 80%), methylleugenol (8.5%), and limonene (3%) as the main chemical compounds.<\/p>\n

Estragol is known for reducing fatigue, relieving stress, improving sleep quality, relieving headaches, improving cognitive function and mood.<\/p>\n

Methylleugenol is used as a perfume in various fragrances and essential oils that contain it act as a good insect repellent (in addition to e.g. citronella) and as a home cleaner (in addition to e.g. citronella, tea tree, laurel, basil).<\/p>\n

However, limonene is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, providing relief for many health problems and improving overall well-being.<\/p>\n

Due to its eucalyptus-like aroma, it is perfect for use during allergy attacks, as it can facilitate breathing.<\/p>\n

When mixed with bergamot and other citrus oils, it also helps lift the mood and boost energy. As the aroma of ravensara is relatively intense, there's a thumb rule that less is more.<\/p>\n

Due to its antiseptic, antibacterial, and antiviral properties, ravensara essential oil is excellent for the treatment of skin diseases and the fight against colds. It is used to fluidify excess mucus and sputum from the respiratory system to make them easier to expel. If you feel that you have a cold (and your immune system is therefore weakened), try to prevent getting ill with taking a nice relaxing bath with a few drops of ravensara essential oil.<\/p>\n
