Description

Lavender

Origin and background

Lavender has been used and appreciated for centuries for its unique aroma and many benefits. In ancient times, the Egyptians and Romans used lavender for bath pleasures and perfumes and for relaxation, as well as for cooking.

Properties

Aromatic properties

Lavender essential oil has a floral scent, but at the same time has a woody and grassy undertone, which is why it is well suited to complement men's fragrances when combined with essential oils of citrus, mint or coniferous plants. Its versatile aroma has made lavender a classic, widely used fragrance in perfumes, soaps, refreshments, and all kinds of beauty products.

Lavender essential oil is perfect for beginners and home users of aromatherapy.

Lavender essential oil is known for its soothing and hypnotic properties. It relieves stress and nervous tension, and helps with sleep problems. However, it should be kept in mind that in case of overuse, it can act on the contrary as a stimulant.

Healing properties

Suitable for healing small scratches and abrasions (diluted with carrier oils), as it is antibacterial and soothing, and this essential oil is considered safe enough to be used in children. Although lavender oil may be used undiluted, given the intensity of the essential oils and the high concentration of the active ingredients, lavender oil should also be used diluted as a precaution.

Lavender oil is often used to disperse and smooth out any imperfections in the skin. Also suitable for cleaning, soothing and relieving minor skin irritations and scratches. It is also suitable for soothing the skin after a long day in the sun.

Lavender oil slows down the aging process of the skin and therefore it is worth adding to the skin care products to a small extent.

Lavender also has a balancing effect on body and mind - it is recommended to add a few drops of oil to a warm bath water to wash away the stress accumulated during the day. You can also apply a few drops of oil on your temples or the back of your neck to relieve tension.

For a good night's sleep, it's a good idea to add a few drops of lavender oil to your bedding, or just on your pillow, or just apply it under your soles so that the oil can do its job and act as a natural relaxant.

Recommended uses

Topical

  • Lavender essential oil may be applied undiluted to the skin, but as a precaution it is still recommended to use it in a diluted form.
  • It is recommended to use essential oils and their blend in a diluted form. Especially for sensitive and gentle skin. This means adding a small amount of water or carrier oil before applying it to the skin. The blend can be placed, for example, in a roll-on bottle that is convenient to carry along and can be used at any convenient time.
  • Can also be added to a neutral unscented cream, lotion, or liquid soap to achieve radiant and healthy skin.
Aromatic
  • Can be used in an aroma diffuser both at home or in the office to create a pleasant and cozy atmosphere that relaxes the senses and creates a pleasant aroma around you.
  • It can also be added to an oil burner. Don't forget to add water to the oil burner and then drip in the essential oil! Pure essential oil is too strong and has a faint odor.
  • Can be added to hot bath water and enjoy an aromatic mini-vacation in the middle of everyday life or at the end of a busy week.
  • Combine it with other compatible oils (see recommendations below) in a diffuser or bath water.
  • Can be diluted in the spray bottle with water and spray it at home, in the office, or just to refresh your bed linen.
  • Can also be applied under the sole or sprayed on a pillow to promote sleep.

Compatibility with other essential oils

Goes well with most other oils, especially citrus oils, geranium, and sage.
