Marjoram

Origin and background

Marjoram essential oil is distilled from the plant Thymus mastichina , which has a hairy stalk, oval leaves and small whitish clusters of flowers. The whole plant exudes a strong aroma. In fact, this plant is a wild-growing thyme, but it is more commonly known as Spanish natural marjoram. It belongs to the SpanishLamiaceae family and is not the same as sweet or French marjoram. However, it is not an oregano, which is also called as a wild marjoram.

Aromatic properties

Marjoram essential oil balances body and mind. Marjoram oil is emotionally suitable for stress, anxiety, and grief.

Spanish marjoram oil is commonly used in aromatherapy with lavender and bergamot essential oils to create a relaxing environment. Helps calm the nerves and dispels feelings of loneliness and exclusion.

Healing properties

Marjoram essential oil is useful in relieving pain.

This oil is said to be more effective than sweet marjoram when used as an expectorant for respiratory diseases and spasms. It has antiseptic properties for the upper respiratory tract, but at the same time it is not a muscle relaxant or sedative like sweet marjoram.

Marjoram oil helps promote digestion.
