Origin and background
Pine essential oil is extracted from the needles of tall evergreen conifers Pinus sylvestris through dry distillation.
It is believed that pine originally originated in Austria and Russia before it spread to different parts of the world. All conifers, such as pine, spruce and fir, are considered to be the protective trees of our planet - especially because of their cleansing properties.
For the ancient Greeks, pine cones were a symbol of male fertility.
Native Americans traditionally used pine needles and young shoots stuffed between beds to keep the lice and fleas away. In addition to the pleasant aroma, sleeping on pine needles also had a sleep-promoting effect, as they contain α-pinene, which scientists have claimed to promote sleep and have a hypnotic effect.
For example, it can be used for the same purpose today by adding a few drops of pine essential oil in a diluted form to a spray bottle and spraying it on bed linen, curtains, mattresses or winter clothes tucked away in the closet.
Properties
Aromatic properties
Adding pine essential oil to an aroma diffuser or oil burner brings a feeling of cleanliness and fresh air of pine forests into your home (or office). By using this oil for inhalation, it has a stimulating and uplifting effect on both the physical and emotional body.
It is an energizing and uplifting oil that helps fight fatigue and supports concentration. Suitable for emotional and mental cleansing, helps clear the senses from confusion and remove negative energy from the room (for example, before meditation).
Healing properties
Pine oil contains 90% monoterpenes and is therefore good for relieving respiratory ailments (for example, in case of cough, runny nose, bronchitis, cold). Pine oil also has an antimicrobial effect. Due to the high content of monoterpenes, this oil is easily oxidized, so it is recommended to keep it in the refrigerator after opening to prolong its shelf life.
Pine essential oil has antimicrobial and antibacterial effects and helps reduce inflammation and redness associated with it, protects against sinus infections, cleanses mucus and sputum, and strengthens immunity. It also treats skin diseases (such as eczema and psoriasis), helps fight fungal and viral infections, and protects the home and the body from various germs.
Pine oil is one of the safest essential oils for humans, although in more sensitive individuals it can cause mild respiratory irritation if inhaled for too long.
Due to its cleaning properties, it is also ideal for use in various household cleaning products.
Recommended uses
Topical
- It is recommended to use essential oils and their blend in a diluted form. Especially for sensitive and gentle skin. This means adding a small amount of water or carrier oil before applying it to the skin. The blend can be placed, for example, in a roll-on bottle that is convenient to carry along and can be used at any convenient time.
- Can also be added to a neutral unscented cream, lotion, or liquid soap to achieve radiant and healthy skin.
- Can be used in an aroma diffuser both at home or in the office to create a pleasant and cozy atmosphere that relaxes the senses and creates a pleasant aroma around you.
- It can also be added to an oil burner. Don't forget to add water to the oil burner and then drip in the essential oil! Pure essential oil is too strong and has a faint odor.
- Can be added to hot bath water and enjoy an aromatic mini-vacation in the middle of everyday life or at the end of a busy week.
- Combine it with other compatible oils (see recommendations below) in a diffuser or bath water.
- Can be diluted in the spray bottle with water and spray it at home, in the office, or just to refresh your bed linen.
