Description

Cedarwood

Origin and background

Cedar tree, Juniperus virginiana, also known as red cedar or Virginian juniper, is basically a tree that grows in cold climates and usually grows in high areas.

Aromatic, fine-grained, soft, very light, pinkish to brownish-red wood core is very durable, even in contact with the soil. Due to its durability, this wood is also used as garden posts. Moths also avoid this aromatic wood and therefore it used as lining for wardrobes and cabinets, often referred to as "cedar cabinets" and "cedar boxes". Properly prepared, it can make great bows. In addition, it is ideal for making wood pencils.

The cedar tree has long been known among various Native American tribes. They also called the cedar tree a tree of life and a tree of medicine, because it was thought that its core (tree core) was magically smeared with blood from above because of its red color, and this made this tree sacred to them. It was burned in rituals, cleansing ceremonies, and sweating tents to ward off evil spirits and bring prophetic visions.

Properties

Aromatic properties

The woody, sweet, and soft aroma of cedarwood essential oil has a pleasant soothing effect and helps relieve stress and tension. Due to its soothing effect, it is also suitable for combating insomnia - add it to the bath before going to bed or use it in a hot shower or spray it diluted with water on your bed linen (pillow).

In addition, its aroma acts as an excellent insect repellent, especially if moths tend to make a nest in the wardrobe, then spraying this oil diluted with water on the wardrobe helps keep annoying goblins away. A particularly effective insecticide can be prepared by mixing it with other insect-repellin essential oils, such as citronella, lemon eucalyptus, or lemongrass.

Healing properties

Cedarwood essential oil has several health benefits: it has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and expectorant effects, also helps with seizures and relieves arthritis pain, acts as a diuretic, has a calming effect and is a good helper in the care of oily skin.

The anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect of cedarwood oil helps in various skin diseases. For example, adding cedarwood oil to traditional acne care products helps alleviate and reduce acne outbreaks. To treat acne, add 2-3 drops of cedar essential oil to 5 teaspoons of a light and non-clogging carrier oil and apply it to the skin once or twice a week for 20 minutes (so that the oil is properly absorbed into the skin). A few drops of cedarwood essential oil can also be added to the facial scrub.

Cedarwood oil may also be useful in other skin conditions. For example, it can reduce the appearance of scars, treat minor wounds and eczema. It also helps fight dandruff and reduce hair loss by promoting hair growth.

Cedarwood essential oil also relieves the symptoms of excess sebum. Seborrheic dermatitis, or excessive sebum secretion, is a common skin condition caused by sebaceous gland dysfunction. It is characterized by the development of eczema foci covered with well-limited chains in areas of the skin rich in sebaceous glands (hairy scalp, face, upper body). Cedarwood essential oil can be useful in treating this inflammatory condition and helps reduce skin peeling, balance sebum production, and treat infection. The oil also reduces redness of the skin and other visible signs.

The antiseptic effect of cedarwood essential oil prevents wounds from becoming inflamed and also protects them from tetanus bacteria. By protecting the body from toxins, cedarwood oil relieves the immune system of additional stress, which allows it to protect the body's internal functions.

Cedarwood essential oil can also be used as a general health tonic, as it tones the organ systems and stimulates metabolism. It tightens and tones the muscles of the skin, stomach, and digestive system, and regulates brain function. It increases kidney and liver function, which further improves overall health and well-being.

Recommended uses

Topical

  • It is recommended to use essential oils and their blends in a diluted form. Especially for sensitive and gentle skin. This means adding a small amount of water or carrier oil before applying it to the skin. The blend can be placed, for example, in a roll-on bottle that is convenient to carry along and can be used at any convenient time.
  • Can also be added to a neutral unscented cream, lotion, or liquid soap to achieve radiant and healthy skin.
Aromatic
  • Can be used in an aroma diffuser both at home or in the office to create a pleasant and cozy atmosphere that relaxes the senses and creates a pleasant aroma around you.
  • It can also be added to an oil burner. Don't forget to add water to the oil burner and then drip in the essential oil! Pure essential oil is too strong and has a faint odor.
  • Can be added to hot bath water and enjoy an aromatic mini-vacation in the middle of everyday life or at the end of a busy week.
  • Combine it with other compatible oils (see recommendations below) in a diffuser or bath water.
  • Can be diluted in the spray bottle with water and spray it at home, in the office, or just to refresh your bed linen.

Compatibility with other essential oils

Bergamot, roman chamomile, clary sage, jasmine, rose, ylang ylang, neroli, petitgrain, patchouli, rosemary, cypress, frankincense, sandalwood, vetiver, juniper berry.
